JANUARY RECAP:
January was a crazy month for me. I feel like I was able to accomplish a lot- especially with my health/ fitness. I finally found a yoga studio I like and started taking classes regularly! I was in a food funk in December but thanks to Pinterest I discovered a few new snacks/ recipes. My trainer, Mike, also had me start eating more protein which honestly, I thought I was eating way more of until he pointed it out. Long story short, January was a great month for nutrition and fitness all around!
January Obstacles:
Last month my biggest obstacle was dealing with my chronic neck pain and headaches. It was trial and error for what yoga routine works for my body. At first it was frustrating to find out how to work around this limitation.
Workouts Completed: 27
Midwest Strength + Performance
I completed 19 workouts at MSP this month. 4 of those were classes. 15 were personal training sessions. As usual, I had my regular training sessions with Mike. He was traveling a bit at the beginning of the month, so we had a few session less per month than we usually schedule. He and I trained 7 times this month. 7 sessions were with TJ, who is teaching me about all things steel mace. I also had my first boxing session with Jimmy who ran me through a series of conditioning drills. It was fun working out with Jimmy. I box with Zane and it was fun shaking it up a bit and seeing other styles of training. While there are many similarities between Jimmy and Zane’s style, they are ultimately very different and I love that!

Hot Yoga Naperville
I started my 2019 with Hot Yoga Naperville. Julia led a wonderful New Year’s Eve Candlelight Yoga class. Throughout January I attended 3 classes. My goal was to start with once per week. Due to the crazy polar vortex and snow, the studio was closed a few times throughout the month. The first yoga class I took was 6 years ago… and it was hot yoga- yeah, something I didn’t mean to do. Needless to say I wasn’t a fan and I spend half a decade avoiding it. Well, plot twist: now I love hot yoga. I haven’t been able to enjoy yoga as much with my whiplash. I tried everything- restorative, yin, props, etc. but my muscles feel so sore and tight all the time. For once, yoga wasn’t able to relieve the pain. I read a couple articles about how hot yoga helped some people manage their chronic pain, so I thought I would give it a try. WOW. Best decision ever. The heat really helps my muscles and I notice a lasting difference outside of class, as well.

FEBRUARY CHALLENGE:
take more classes
I love the group classes at MSP and I want to make more time to take them. I want to attend Sam’s Suspension + Bodyweight class. I’ve heard so many amazing things about her class and I haven’t taken it yet. I also want to work on improving my bodyweight skills and the only way to do that is if I practice.. so you’ll find me in Zane’s classes this month.
Drink More Water:
This one seems pretty self explanatory. I have my reusable and eco-friendly water bottles in the cabinet ready to be used!
REST AND RELAX:
I want to continue to incorporate more quiet time back into my day. I truly noticed a difference when I take the time to tune into myself and shut out all distractions. I also want to continue the current night time routine I have, where I’m in bed earlier. I also diffuse essential oils every night. Rest is extremely important, especially when trying to achieve fitness goals, and when recovering from any type of injury.
