Building off my progress from last season, I put together another post. This time, focusing on sustainability goals for the end of summer!
7 Eco-Friendly Goals I’m Setting For The End Of Summer
I loved setting eco-goals for Spring and accomplishing them throughout the season. But, the most enjoyable was how many people in my community wanted to join in. As a result of the joy I found doing them, I created a summer version of my sustainability goals.
New to sustainability? Check out this post: 7 Tips To Begin Your Sustainability Journey
1. Make A New Tempeh Recipe
Since visiting my friend Molly in Australia, I’ve been inspired to try more vegan recipes. Especially alternatives for animal-based protein. Molly is vegan and I was surprised by how delicious the food was that we ate and how easy some of the dishes were to make. Throughout Spring, I made two new tofu dishes. It was really fun to experiment. While I’m not an expert tofu Chef, I feel confident enough in the basics I’ve learned to branch out.
I purchased Tempeh the other day and my first attempt at preparing it was absolutely awful. I’m looking forward to the next few months and learning how I can improve. Do you have any tips for me? I think I’m going to try this recipe, next!
2. Learn How To Properly Dispose Of My Empty Makeup & Beauty Products
I have a drawer of empty beauty products plus a few other empty makeup items around my room. I’ve been saving them because I’m not sure how to properly get rid of them. I know I can’t put them in my home recycling bin and I don’t want to throw them in the trash just in case parts may be recyclable at my local trash/ recycling facility.
Nevertheless, this is something I need to make time to look up and find the answers to. It’s no use keeping a bunch of empties when I can take an hour (or less) to create an eco-game plan.
3. Sign Up To Volunteer At Urban Rivers
Chicago’s Urbane Rivers is the first floating eco-park. The non-profit coordinates clean-up groups and I loved the kayak cleanup day I attended a few months ago. It was great contributing to the local community and being a part of a team that left an ecosystem better than how we found it.
4. Register For Fall Sewing Lessons
I have a machine but don’t know how to use it, so what better time to learn how to sew than now?

5. Find A Local Tailor
I have a few clothes nestled in the back of my closet in my “tailor” bin. I don’t have a tailor, so going around town and asking loved ones for recommendations is a great first step in getting the clothes out of that bin, altered, and reunited with a hanger.
6. Go Through My Books & Donate What I Won’t Read
My bookshelves are overflowing! I have a lot of books that I haven’t re-read and I don’t plan to, so I want to go through them and donate those to someone who will turn their pages again.
7. Research One New Sustainable Swap To Make
I feel a bit stagnant when it comes to sustainable swaps. Aside from the Plastic-Free July challenge and the digital sustainability project I’m wrapping up, I’m not sure what else I could be doing to live more eco-friendly. I know there are certainly more things I can improve on, so learning what those are is my next goal, then implementing them.
