I spotted a cozy home as I was driving around this afternoon. The homeowners had stuffed bears dressed in wedding attire, flags, wind chimes, flowers and more displayed in honor of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s marriage. I couldn’t just drive past- I mean how often is it I come across houses like this?! For those of you who know me personally, you know how much I love the U.K and the monarchy. Seeing this house in the town I grew up in and recently moved out of, was even more special. It felt like a nod to my future and sign I’m headed in the right path. I want to share a few thoughts I have on the wedding and a few of the reasons I loved it so much.

Like most people around the world, I spent the morning tuning into the Royal Wedding. Throughout the ceremony, I couldn’t stop smiling (and crying). It was amazing watching history unfold. Meghan Markle, a biracial, divorced American, married Prince Harry. They not only included but celebrated Meghan’s racial background by sprinkling in African American elements throughout the ceremony. ⠀

I thought it was incredibly powerful celebrating her hertitage versus conforming to the traditional British ceremony. From little decision to big, they were purposeful and important. When Meghan opted not to cover her freckles so the real her could be seen, to the couple having the first African American person serving as Bishop of the Episcopal Church marry them, they truly sought out to merge their backgrounds in more ways than saying their vows.

I loved watching Bishop Michael Curry preach on the power of love. It was a message I think everyone across the world needed to hear. He not only addressed Meghan and Harry’s love but recognized slavery, the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and noted the importance of love in politics and government. In a time full of school shootings, natural disaster, starvation and lack of basic human needs for survival, we were able to come together today as human beings to remember what love is and feel happiness. For a moment our televisions were not flooded with tragedy, but reporting something positive: a reminder that love conquers all.

Just when I thougth the wedding had peaked, “This Little Light Of Mine” was sung as the newlyweds were exiting the Castle. This song was the anthem of the civil rights movement. Talk about ending on a high note (literally). ⠀

Overall, Meghan and Harry broke tradition and I’m glad they did. I can’t wait to see how they challenge and positively impact the U.K and rest of the world.
