EXCLUSIVE: Macaila Britton signs with 5 Otter Literary; The Canadian-based international agency, represented by multi-hyphenate, Olga Filina—founder, partner, and literary agent.
As of December 2022, Britton is one of the latest writers and an aspiring author to be represented by Olga Filina in the pursuit of publication for Britton’s debut children’s manuscript—partially inspired by “The Big Apple”.
Previously represented by Books & Such Literary Management, Britton amicably parted ways with the niche-based agency to secure representation in the general market for the previously mentioned manuscript, in addition to an assortment of other stories written for a younger audience.
5 Otter Literary “5OL” is a full-service, international literary agency founded in 2020 by long-time friends and publishing industry colleagues, Olga Filina, Ali McDonald, and Cassandra Rodgers. The agency represents literature across all audiences, categories, genres, and formats, for traditional publishing as well as audio, translation, and film/TV. 5OL’s authors are award-winning, bestselling, and critically acclaimed, as well as debut and emerging.
As Filina leads Britton’s debut into publishing, the agent brings over twenty years of book industry experience to her work as an agent. From bookseller and buyer at national and independent bookstore chains, to director of literary festivals, library board member, publishing consultant, independent editor, book reviewer, and founding member of the Professional Association of Canadian Literary Agents (PACLA), [Filina] has the specialized knowledge to find the best direction for her clients’ work.
